5 things We Love About Our East Dallas Neighborhood

1. The Restaurants

Less than 2 miles away, you’ll find many incredible local Dallas restaurants. If you’re looking for a unique menu focusing on seasonal fares and local ingredients, you must try Cry Wolf. Another of our favorite East Dallas Neighborhood restaurants is Garden Café, which features fresh herbs and vegetables from their own garden and is a great spot for brunch on the weekends (try the mimosa with fresh squeezed OJ!). Jimmy’s Food Store is most known for being an authentic Italian grocery store, but we must include them here for their made-to-order Italian sandwiches. Grab one to go for lunch before venturing out to explore. Urbano Cafe offers a wide range of dishes from seafood to fresh pasta using Jimmy’s famous Italian sausage, and you can bring your own wine to enjoy. And speaking of wine, times ten cellars offers rich wines and small bites that you can enjoy in their tasting room or on the patio, plus you can purchase a bottle (or two) to bring home.

2. The Sante Fe Trail

Approximately 4.5 miles from our Dallas B&B, the Santa Fe Trail attracts runners and bikers alike. It connects White Rock Lake to Deep Ellum, Fair Park, and Downtown Dallas, and also offers a few parks along the way. Hop on just a few blocks away and there are sites to see in either direction.

3. Swiss Avenue

This 2.5-mile stretch of large brick and stone mansions is one of the most iconic streets in Dallas. Swiss Avenue was Dallas’ first historic district, recognized in 1973, and is located one block from The Gaston. The large tree canopies along the street make for the perfect place to walk.

4. Vintage Shops

East Dallas Vintage is a multi-vendor shop featuring unique furniture, clothing, records, and so much more. Dolly Python is filled with hand-selected clothing, boots, jewelry, art, and records. Both are a few minutes from The Gaston and are definitely worth the trip.

5. Fair Park

Only a few minutes away, Fair Park is home to countless events and concerts throughout the year, including the biggest draw of all, the State Fair of Texas, happening right now. Check out their upcoming events to plan your visit.
