The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden

Within the sprawling city of Dallas, you’ll find stunningly curated natural beauty at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden, just a 10-minute drive from our boutique Dallas bed & breakfast. The Arboretum is the perfect spot for a day trip, located on the shores of White Rock Lake in East Dallas just north of Highway 30. Whether you’re a couple looking for a lovely romantic location or parents looking for a family-friendly outdoor adventure, the Dallas Arboretum has just what you’re looking for.

The Gardens: over 66 acres of natural beauty…

Lauded as one of the best botanical gardens in the world, the Dallas Arboretum boasts 22 different gardens and pavilions, providing a variety of carefully manicured atmospheres for visitors. The Arboretum is open daily from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

The Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden is an excellent place for families to bring their children. The walled garden provides a safe environment for the youngest visitors to play, learn, and explore in a natural setting. Take a break from the heat by visiting the OmniGlobe, a 6-foot sphere illuminated by projectors to display images of the planets, weather patterns, ocean currents, and other things that play into our ecosystem. Adventure through the Secret Garden Maze, where children can test their knowledge to find the exit! The garden also offers programs like thematic storytimes and puppet shows in the glade.

Zen garden

If you’re seeking a more serene and romantic experience, the Dallas Arboretum has a number of gardens to choose from. The Margaret Elizabeth Jonsson Color Garden lives up to its name with a vibrant array of over 2,000 varieties of azaleas. Visit in the spring and summer to see the garden at its best and brightest. Then make your way to A Woman’s Garden, and take in the breathtaking view of White Rock Lake tucked behind the reflective surface of the infinity pool. You can admire various sculptures while listening to the sounds of gently flowing water. Have a peaceful picnic in the shady canopy of the Pecan Grove, and explore their internationally acclaimed “Pumpkin Houses.” Then stop and smell the roses in their traditional Rose Garden, filled to the brim with 16 varieties of hybrid tea roses. This is all just a small handful of what the Dallas Arboretum has to offer.

The Dallas Arboretum boasts more than just beauty

You won’t just find flower gardens at the Dallas Arboretum. A Tasteful Place, the Arboretum’s 3.5-acre potager garden, pavilion, and kitchen provides educational experiences based on growing and eating fresh, sustainable, and locally grown food. Learn the process of growing your own food through one of their horticulture lessons. Then check out one of the cooking classes provided to figure out how to prepare all that homegrown food. Or stop by in the afternoon to try their daily samples, prepared by on-site chef Isabel with food grown in the gardens. Enjoy all of this surrounded by sweeping vistas of the Dallas skyline over White Rock Lake. Though A Tasteful Place only offers food samples, a full meal is easy to find at one of the several restaurants and dining experiences within The Dallas Arboretum. Or carry food in and enjoy one of the many beautiful picnic spots.
